服についた「貝のアンモニア臭が落ちない！」→オキシクリーンより効いた“意外な組み合わせ”とは？【経験談】

賞味期限が近付いていた膨張した貝の缶詰め。これを缶切りで開けた瞬間！！！！液状化した貝が服及びキッチン全体に噴射され、、、、家全体まで貝のアンモニア臭に。

服に付いてしまった「貝のアンモニア臭」。この独特なツンとした臭い、なかなか取れませんよね。このハプニングのおかげで服がすっかり貝臭くなってしまいました。

今回は、その中で「実際に効果があった方法」と「効果がいまひとつだった方法」をレポートします。

A can of clams that was nearing its expiration date had started to bulge slightly. The moment I opened it with a can opener—boom!
The liquefied contents of the clams exploded out, splattering all over my clothes, the kitchen, and somehow even filling the entire house with that strong ammonia-like seafood smell.

If you’ve ever dealt with that sharp, pungent “clam ammonia odor,” you know how stubborn it can be. Because of this little kitchen disaster, my clothes ended up smelling strongly of shellfish.

In this post, I’ll share what I tried to remove the odor — what actually worked and what didn’t.

まず試したのはオキシクリーン

最初に試したのは、酸素系漂白剤の定番「オキシクリーン」。
ぬるま湯にオキシクリーン＋貝のアンモニア臭がする服を普通に手洗いしました。

漂白力や消臭効果が高いと聞いていたので、これで取れるだろうと期待していたのですが――翌日、乾いた服を嗅いでみると、まだ強い存在を放つアンモニア臭が残っていました。

The first thing I tried was OxiClean, a popular oxygen-based bleach.
I dissolved some in warm water and hand-washed the clothes that reeked of that clam ammonia smell.

Since OxiClean is known for its powerful whitening and deodorizing effects, I was pretty confident it would work.
However—when I smelled the clothes the next day after they had dried, that strong, lingering ammonia odor was still there, boldly holding its ground.

次に試したのは「洗濯洗剤＋Downyのビーズ」

そこで次に試したのが、普段の洗濯洗剤（Tide)に**ダウニーのビーズ（香りづけビーズ）**をプラスする方法です。香りはApril Fresh
香りでごまかすだけになってしまわないか不安でしたが、結果は予想以上！

洗濯後に匂いを嗅いでみると、臭いが抑えられている！

使った洗濯洗剤は、アメリカではおなじみの「Tide」です。

乾燥器で乾かしてみると、あの強いアンモニア臭がほとんど気にならないレベルに。ビーズの香りが勝っているだけでなく、時間が経っても臭いが戻ってこないので、しっかり臭いが中和されている感じがありました。
特に、汗や皮脂臭を吸着して消すタイプのダウニーのビーズは、アンモニア系の臭いのかもいれません。

Next, I tried adding Febreze scent beads to my usual laundry detergent.
I was a bit worried it might just mask the smell rather than actually remove it—but the results were far better than I expected!

Right after washing, I noticed the odor was already much weaker.
Once the clothes came out of the dryer, that strong ammonia smell was almost completely gone. It didn’t feel like the beads were simply covering it up; the odor actually seemed neutralized, because even after several hours, the smell didn’t come back.

It seems that Febreze beads designed to absorb and eliminate sweat or body odors may also work surprisingly well against ammonia-type smells like this one.

The laundry detergent I used is the familiar American brand, Tide.

オキシクリーンと洗濯洗剤＋ダウニーのビーズ、どちらが効果的？

• 結果・・・
• オキシクリーン：強いアンモニア臭は残る
• 洗濯洗剤(Tide)＋Downy Beads April Fresh：臭いがほぼ気にならないまで消える

Which worked better: OxiClean or Tide＋Febreze scent beads?

Results:

• OxiClean: The strong ammonia smell still lingered.
• Laundry detergent + Downy Beads April Fresh: The odor was almost completely gone.

まとめ

貝の放つアンモニア臭には「洗濯洗剤＋香り付き消臭」の組み合わせで、匂いが取れました。どちらもコストコ購入。

貝のアンモニア臭は、タンパク質やバクテリア由来の強い臭いなので、普通の洗濯では落ちにくいのが難点です。
オキシクリーンでも多少は匂い消しはできますが、「完全に消したい」場合はダウニーのビーズのような消臭＋香りのWアプローチが効果的ってことを学びました。

For the strong ammonia smell that clams give off, I found that the combination of laundry detergent + scented odor-eliminating beads worked best.

Clam ammonia odor is tough because it comes from proteins and bacteria, making it difficult to remove with regular washing.
OxiClean can help to some extent, but if you want the smell completely gone, a dual approach of deodorizing + fragrance, like with Febreze beads, is far more effective.
